The Glades is a very entertaining TV detective show. It is hard to bring anything new to the genre but this show manages to be fresh enough not to be comparable to anything else out there. If you prefer more lightweight cop shows with little violence and some but not much gore, this is what you are looking for. The Glades The Complete First Season features 13 episodes on 4 DVD.

Chicago detective Jim Longworth moves to the Florida Everglades where he gets a similar position. He teams up with coroner Carlos Sanchez and another detective who both learn quickly that Detective Longworth has an unusual and somewhat passive aggressive way of solving crimes.

Part of The Glades involves Longworth developing a relationship with a nurse and medical student with a teenage son whose father is in prison for armed robbery.  There is something to be said about a storyline running through a show; it makes it that much more interesting and allows the characters and the show to grow.

The plots are generally better than what you get in your average TV cop show. A few of the shows, including Doppelganger, are excellent and more complex than what the show usually goes for. The Cassadega story about a village of mediums and psychics is really cool.

It is also to be noted that the female characters in The Glades, especially nurse Callie Cargill (Kiele Sanchez) are stronger and more believable that in most other TV mystery shows.

Special features on The Glades The Complete First Season are 2 commentary tracks, deleted scenes, Sunshine State of Mind: Casting The Glades, a Location for Murder: Filming The Glades, and a gag reel.
