The notorious and evil Enoch Leng has long been experimenting with a substance that has the capacity to change mankind forever. Refining the formula requires testing on unwitting and disposable captives.
Enigmatic FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast, his more than capable ward Constance Greene, and Police Lieutenant Vincent D’Agosta are transported back in time to Manhattan in 1880.
Greene has disturbing ties to the evil genius. Her beloved family is in jeopardy. She is willing to risk everything for them.
The intention of the trio is to neutralize Leng on his own turf before tragic and irreparable events can occur.
At great peril and with the risk of never being able to return to their present-day lives, they must adapt their current knowledge to the time, and use what resources are available. They hatch a complicated multi-layered plan with the assistance of assumed identities, clever disguises, a surprise accomplice, and locals who are willing to do anything if their pockets are sufficiently padded.
Preston & Child capture the 1880s in perfect, wonderful detail.
Never a dull moment, Angel of Vengeance makes for a fun, edge-of-your-seat exciting page-turner. Loyal followers of the series and newcomers alike will be caught up in the pages.
Be aware though, that Angel of Vengeance is not an entirely stand alone novel. If it is your first involvement with the Pendergast series, some information may be confusing at first, but keep reading for everything to tie in. That being said, reading previous adventures is highly recommended to enrich and enhance the Angel of Vengeance experience.
So, is it over? Is everything resolved? Somehow, I think not.
I wonder what else the imaginative Preston & Child have in store.
