At one point I had read every novel that Michael Connelly wrote. I missed a few when I took a break.

I came back to The Waiting.

I remembered how tight, engaging, entertaining and intense Connelly’s books are. An excellent read, The Waiting did not disappoint. Click here to BUY at Amazon

The familiar characters felt like coming home. Renee Ballard heads the LAPD Open-Unsolved Unit, a committee composed of law enforcement and professional civilians who are charged with investigating very old and cold cases.

At times pushing the envelope, her job security is sometimes iffy. When her badge, and gun are stolen while she is surfing, she chooses to reclaim them on the quiet, with the assistance of long-time confidant and ex cop Harry Bosch.

Joining law enforcement and following in her father’s footsteps, the very competent Officer Mallory Bosch has connected with Renee’s committee. She has a solid lead on one of the most feared unsolved serial killer cases in the history of Los Angeles. She needs Renee’s help to run the clues.

Interesting intersecting plots are nicely woven into the story.
