Hunted is the new thriller by Abir Mukerjee.
I got this book thinking it was about parents struggling to locate their missing children. It is, but Hunted is much more than that.
Amidst a battle for President of the United States, a bomb goes off in a Los Angeles mall. It looks like terrorism. Buy at Amazon
Two youthful individuals, one male and one female are responsible. Like many others at the scene, one is dead.
Amidst the aftermath of destruction, accustomed to working outside the parameters of official orders, FBI agent Shreya Mistry is determined to find out what happened.
In the meantime, two frightened, courageous and determined parents from distant parts of the globe join forces to save their children who influenced by dark forces have disappeared to meet an unforgiveable fate if they are not rescued soon.
Enter a mysterious and dangerous force, Miriam; a powerful leader with a vice-like hold on the vulnerable who do her deadly bidding.
Hunted’s explosive beginning sets the stage for all that develops. With a plot that is generally easy to follow, I like that insights can be gained from a difficult topic when it is explored from different cultural perspectives. It is also interesting to learn why people get lured into making dangerous choices.
Despite that, for me, Hunted is a slow burn to come full circle.
Politics reemerge only after a considerable time.
There’s a lot of running, hiding, chasing, and figuring out where the targets are, but then again, it is called Hunted. As the storyline progresses with some very unexpected twists and alliances and betrayals are revealed, Hunted gains in complexity, excitement and urgency.
The subject matter is not something I will explore further, but if you enjoy it, put Hunted on your reading list.
