Holmes is Missing; A Holmes, Margaret and Poe mystery by James Patterson and Brian Sitts
Having read and enjoyed Holmes, Marple and Poe, I could not wait for Holmes is Missing to land on my doorstep. BUY at Amazon
Their names borrowed from famous literary investigators, Brendan Holmes, Margaret Marple, and Auguste Poe are new PIs in town. The success of their previous case and its resulting media coverage have already created a reputation and set the bar high.
Holmes is MIA. The others are called to the maternity ward of St. Michael’s Hospital in New York, where, despite state of the art security systems, six newborns have been removed and considered kidnapped. The babies have two commonalities: They are the progenies of wealthy couples, and all are Caucasian.
Parents are frantic and are not at all happy with how the police department is handing things which leads to additional head-butting between law enforcement and the PI team.
When it appears that a request for ransom is not coming, a more sinister motive is imagined.
An ambivalent Holmes is plucked from his sabbatical. He becomes convinced to join the others for just one more case, although he is often on his own, pursuing a more personal and private investigation.
Holmes is Missing is generally a fun ride, although it does contain some sad and possibly disturbing moments. Easily readable, it includes tight writing, an interesting storyline, and some completely unexpected entanglements.
Although we don’t know a lot about the mysterious three, more details and insights into their lives and relationships arise that reveal them to be very interesting, complicated and fallible human beings.
Holmes is Missing leaves you wanting to discover what will happen next. I can hardly wait!
As an aside, it is interesting that the subtitle on the dust jacket reads “A Holmes, Margaret & Poe Mystery” instead of being consistent with “A Holmes, Marple & Poe Mystery” on the previous book. Perhaps we will find an answer to that mystery when book #3 is released.
