Following the success of the first Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. the studio quickly put A Game of Shadows in production. Fear not, this second Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray is no quick buck sequel. Almost everything works in this mystery including Jared Harrris as Holmes’ greatest nemesis Professor Moriarty.
A Game of Shadows begins on the eve of Watson’s wedding. Holmes is to be his best man but is distracted by a series of connection he sees between various violent events in Europe. He eventually comes across a well-respected university professor named Moriarty who may have something to do with it. The game is on.
The game includes a very intriguing Gypsy named Sim (Noomi Rapace).
Like the original Holmes with Downey Jr. this movie has a good blend of action, story, and interesting characters. This one does use the slow-motion scene trick a few too many times, especially for the sequence where Holmes and his companions are running in the German woods.
Overall Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows is a very good action mystery movie. Purists might have a problem with the number of action scenes but the story really holds water.
