Mystery Books - Adrian Magson - Death on the Marais

Death on the Marais

Death on the Marais is the first of too few Lucas Rocco mystery novels by Adrian Magson. Set in a small northern French village in the early sixties, the series focuses on a no-nonsense city detective transferred to the boonies. Rocco has to contend with suspicious of everything locals and a chain of command with more than a few personal agendas. For those who like straightforward whodunits with a Maigret touch, Death on the Marais and the two other books in this series are a must. Kindle version at Amazon

The body of a young woman wearing a Gestapo uniform is found in the war cemetery of Poissons-les-Marais.  Inspector Lucas Rocco, freshly transferred from Paris, has to find the killer while navigating the complexities of a chain of command very much under the influence of the rich and powerful. He also has to deal with the unwillingness of most French people to talk about what happened during the war and overcome the many roadblocks placed in his way by the victim's very powerful father.

Magson has created a very interesting character a reader can sympathize with. His Poissons-les-Marais  is very credible and the locals very French. If you are looking for a good read, this is it.
