Though nothing will ever top the Arthur Penn version of Bonnie & Clyde with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beattie, this Bonnie & Clyde is fun to watch. Aired in two parts on A&E, this one stars Holliday Granger and Emile Hirsch. Hirsch is competent but it is Granger who really shines as Bonnie. At 174 minutes, there are a couple of repetitive moments but overall this drama moves right along. It is not quite as gory as the movie version but it has its moments.
Bonnie & Clyde begins with the story of Clyde Barrow but it is when Bonnie goes along for the ride that things get really interesting. This version adds a few elements to the story such as Bonnie having some kind of condition that is exacerbated under great stress but also downplays the relationship between her and sheriff Ted Hinton. I was also not aware Clyde was prescient.
William Hurt shows up as Frank Hamer, the man who hunted Bonnie & Clyde. It is a capable performance but not something any other actor could not have done.
Bonnie & Clyde is something you will enjoy.
