Bones, very very loosely based on the Temperance Brennan novels by Kathy Reichs, is an excellent mystery TV series. Granted, the show takes a lot of pleasure in presenting the weekly corpse in the most gruesome and icky way possible but that is just part of its signature. The 23 episodes that form Bones The Complete Sixth Season are excellent. You do not have to be familiar with the show to enjoy it but knowing the characters’ backstory does add to the experience.

The season opens with District Attorney Caroline Julian reassembling the Jeffersonian Museum team to help out a friend. Bones Season 6 focuses on the relationships within the team and the focus is not always on the Tempe – Booth thing. Temperance Brennan learns a few things about herself when a case hits close to home.

One of the funniest shows in Bones Season 6 is The Maggots in the Meathead where Brennan uses what she learned watching the documentary series on the Guido tribe titled The Jersey Shore to solve a crime.

Michael Clarke Duncan shows up in The Finder, an episode that sets up a spin-off series. Ryan O’Neal makes a couple of guest appearances as Tempe Brennan’s father.

A particularly gooey episode is The Babe in the Bar. This is an episode chocolate lovers really want to skip. The blizzard episode where Bones and Booth are stuck in an elevator and have to talk about their relationship is good but you really have to suspend disbelief at the lengths the lab goes to to identify a dead body when the power goes out even if the motive given in the episode is decent.

Bones Season 6 introduces a new villain late in the season.

Special features for Bones The Complete Season 6 Blu-ray and DVD are the pilot episode for the spin-off series The Killing, commentary track on two episodes, two extended episodes, The Visual Effects of Bones, and a 4-minute gag reel, and
