Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter
A Dixie Hemingway Mystery
Blaise Clement
St. Martin?s Press

Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter is quite a good cozy mystery novel; this from someone who dislikes the cozy with a passion and has never cat sat or sat on a cat (Dr, Seuss?). Obviously geared towards a women readership, this first Dixie Hemingway thriller is something anyone who likes a light read with some substance. Of course, if you like cats and even if you do not have cat lady tendencies (i.e. have more than one, are single, and wear a shawl) you are going to enjoy the various moments where Dixie Hemingway talks about cat styles and personalities. This is a fun read. Kindle version at Amazon

Set in Sarasota, Florida, Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter is the story of former sherriff s deputy Dixie Hemingway, a thirty something woman who lost her child and husband in a tragedy and trying to put her life back together. Hemingway is an animal lover so she has set up a pet sitting service where she drops by your home and takes care of and plays with your animal while you are gone.

One day, Hemingway goes into a client s house only to find someone face down in the cat s water bowl, dead. After calming down a rather miffed cat named Ghost she calls the cops. Hemingway then tries to get in touch with her client to no avail. This leads her to start asking questions and more or less investigating. When another body turns up and someone starts going after her, things get more serious.

Blaise Clement includes couple of secondary stories involving a neighborhood kid, her brother and his boyfriend (nothing a reader who likes cats will object to), and a friend of Ghost s owner as fill in background.

Curiosity Killed the Cat sitter is well plotted and Blaise Clement has created an interesting amateur detective. The solve stretches credibility a bit and there are a series of minor plot points, such as Hemingway being left a fortune by a client, that get really glossed over.

If you like the cozy mystery novel and or are looking for a lightweight but not fluffy read, this book is a good choice.

Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter also makes for an original thank you gift next time someone takes care of you cat for you. You might even want to leave it in a drawer for that person to find.
