Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift is 104 minutes of fun. If you already want to see this movie then you will love this movie. If you are expecting complex characterization, complicated plotting then you are at the wrong movie! This is a Fast And Furious movie it is a guy movie. It is non stop, pulsing power, high octane, high revving, high hemlines, low necklines, need for speed fun. The women are beautiful, the cars are sexy and the racing is mind numbing.
This is a quintessential guy movie for those of us who enjoy stories that move quickly and don’t get bogged down in the details. Do not go with any friend who likes to point out story inconsistencies or holes in the plot or the likelihood of a Yakuza boss entertaining suggestions about anything from an American high school student. Go by yourself or with people who like fast cars, fast women and fast moving stories.
It is a shame that a movie like this will never be considered at Oscar time. It’s not that the story or the acting deserves recognition (though Sung Kang as Han delivers a brilliant performance with precious little to work with), but the cinematography, art direction and stunt coordination definitely deserve to be recognized. The grace, power and beauty of drifting is all captured up close and personal by some of the best camera work you are ever likely to see in a car movie.
Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift is a must see for fans of this franchise and anyone who is seriously a gear head.
