Happy Pennington has been a beauty contestant all her life. She is now in the Ms. America pageant taking place in Hawaii. She is picked as one of the five finalists. When one of the finalists goes for that great pageant in the sky instead, Happy is immediately suspect, especially when she wins the crown.
Happy has investigator blood in her so she enrolls some of the other beauty pageant contestants and decides to investigate. This is where the fun begins.
Diana Dempsey has put together a very good Kindle mystery. The plot and characterization are solid, the main character is interesting and witty, and she drops just enough beauty pageant background information to tell the reader he /she is in good hands.
Ms America and the Offing on Oahu is excellent summer reading material. I am looking forward to the second book in the series Ms America and the Villainy in Vegas.
