A Slice of Murder
Chris Cavender
A Slice of Murder is the first in the A Pizza Lover's Mystery series by Chris Cavender. Cavender is the pen name of Tim Myers. Myers is a genre cozy specialist with the Soapmaking and Candlemaking series, the Lighthouse Inn series and the Cardmaking Mysteries as Elizabeth Bright to name a few (Amazon has the first of each series as a Kindle 4-pack). As the cozy mystery goes, A Slice of Murder is decent enough.
A Pizza Lovers Mystery series is the story of Eleanor Swift, widow and owner of the A Slice of Life pizzeria in a small North Carolina town that will remind readers of Jessica Fletcher s Cabot Cove and other whodunit novel generic small towns. For some convenient reason, shop owner Eleanor makes a late night delivery to a customer and finds him stabbed to death.
The town s police chief, one of Eleanor s high school sweethearts, is immediately convinced she is the killer. There is no logical reason for that but it helps move the plot along. Convinced she will not get any help from the police, Eleanor s sister Maddy convinces her they should investigate and find the killer to prove Eleanor is innocent.
A Slice of Murder is a very chatty mystery. It is plotted in rather broad strokes so if you start thinking too much plot holes and continuity problems become evident and this spoils the fun.
If you like small town mystery novels and enjoy very light fare, A Slice of Murder does the job.
